So, your relationship is at a place where you both are walking on eggshells. It seems as if every conversation starts with, “What’s wrong?” Then one day while you are waiting for the maintenance man to come repair her best friend’s washing machine, you ask yourself, “What does true love look like?”
This song had a truly cathartic effect on me as I wrote it because it allowed me to paint the picture of every great movie I had ever loved, every fantasy story I ever read, and every wish list that many people shared with me throughout my life. What made it even more fun to write was to use imagery that would be “radio friendly.” Here’s part of one of the lyrics from the song:
“…her morning magic is all I need to start my day off right…”
I took a survey to see how people interpreted those lyrics and I was amazed at how many different responses I got. They ranged from one email being quarantined by my virus protection software to someone liking to see his woman iron his shirt before he went to work because his mother used to do that for his father. When you get a chance, send me an email with your response!
I co-wrote My True Love with Grammy Award winner Phil Davis, Jr. (Boney James, George Duke, Rachelle Ferrell) He did an amazing job producing my song, “I Do,” and toured as Will Downing’s music director, so I knew that he would be able to create the Pop/R&B/Smooth Jazz feel the song required. Palmer Williams, Jr. Palmer Williams, Jr. (“Floyd” from House of Payne, Love Thy Neighbor, Monica, LSG, Keith Sweat, A Good Man Is Hard To Find!, Can A Woman Make A Man Lose His Mind?, What a Man Wants…What a Woman Needs) was able to harmonize on the subtle changes in the background vocals and help me tell the world the real meaning of true love.
